Snow on the Football Field
It’s that time of year again! The NFL season has kicked off to a strong beginning. We have the Chiefs, Lions & Eagles seem to be in the top 3 in regards to power ranking as of Week 15. While there may be some hardcore American football fans reading, there might also be some who have no clue about how football works. However, both of these archetypes may have in common that they will have to watch some tough matches on Christmas Day. This holiday season, I am giving the gift of knowing exactly what you are watching on Christmas Day with your family. So whether you are watching these games for the thrill, or because you have to in order to spend time with family, you will know what’s going on, maybe even be able to make a game reference or two.
At 1pm on the 25th, we will get to watch the Kansas City Chiefs, a team who has made it to 4 Super Bowls in the last 5 years, and won 3, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are known to be the team with the most Super Bowl rings to date. The Chiefs were established as a team in 1959, and played their first game in 1960. They are currently in the American Football Conference West, and have shown dominance over opposing teams. Some standout players from CBS Sports’ Top 100 NFL players include star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive tackle Chris Jones, tight end Travis Kelce, cornerback Trent McDuffie and center Creed Humphrey. Under the direction of coach Andy Reed, this team has shown great promise this year, securing 13 wins out of 14 games which have taken place this season. The opponent to this powerhouse team is not an easy one, as the Pittsburgh Steelers are having a pretty nice start this year with 10 wins out of 14 games, and most of the losses being tight games. CBS Sports also highlights linebacker T.J. Watt, wide receiver George Pickens, wide receiver Garrett Wilson each under the direction of Coach Mike Tomlin. Dominating the franchise by premiering the winning of six Super Bowl wins for AFC North, they have been a team who makes you want to root for them for a long-standing time.
The second game on this jolly holiday is the Baltimore Ravens versus the Houston Texans at 4:30pm. The Ravens have had a decent season thus far, with a 9-14 win-total ratio, and having some powerful players such as MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, safety Kyle Hamilton and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley. This Maryland home bound team is fairly new to the NFL, only making their NFL debut in 1996. Since then, the team has won 2 super bowls and is currently under the direction of Coach John William Harbaugh in the AFC North. Their holiday opponent, the Houston Texans also have 9 wins out of 14 games this season, however the Ravens beat Texans in rings, as the Texans are yet to win a Super Bowl yet. Circling back to the CBS Sports Top 100 NFL Players list, defensive end Danielle Hunter, quarterback C.J. Stroud, offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, wide receiver Nico Collins and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. all appear under the coaching of Mr. DeMecp Ryans. These southern boys play for AFC South, and are all said to show promise for this season.
These games would be a joy to watch on the afternoon of Christmas, sipping hot chocolate as you are on the edge of your seat while little siblings play with their new toys from Santa and getting ready for a cheerful Christmas dinner. Merry Christmas, and may everyone wish these teams a happy new season.
