The iconic television show, The Masked Singer, has made its way to Carey. Last Friday, January 24 a couple of brave teachers got up on stage to create this notable event.
For those unfamiliar with The Masked Singer, the show presents singers dressed in unrecognizable costumes. The audience is prompted to guess who is who based on their singing talent alone. At Carey, the masters of ceremony were Senior Kayla Dudine and staff member, Margaret Maniscalco. The judges were Junior Gino Pasquetti as well as our vice-principal C. Carmody and staff member Cathie Wright.
To kick off the night, the Gladiator and Dragon performed. They sang the heartfelt piece, I Got You Babe by Sonny and Cher. These teachers put on an astonishing show. The Gladiator and Dragon were revealed to be Ms. Zenzerovic and Ms. DiMilia. Their performance had a few microphone issues, but it’s safe to say when faced with issues, they “winged” it!
Second, was a solo performance by the Unicorn. This contestant’s singing voice is surely reminiscent of the mythical being they’re dressed as! The Unicorn sang Still Into You by Paramore. When outside of the suit, this unicorn is Ms. Goiyia! Her performance left the audience with a big smile to their faces.
Third, were Carey’s very own Flock of Seahawks. Together, they sang Survive by Gloria Gaynor. Costumes off, you can see these Seahawks in their science classrooms. The Seahawks are Mrs. Holdcroft and Dr. McGuiness. Their show was a fantastic performance that anyone would be proud to have representing this school.
Next, was the mysterious Pterodactyl. You could say the performance was Dino-Mite! To keep on theme in the Science Department, this Pterodactyl is revealed to be Mr. Escuro. The lively performance definitely made everyone’s hearts “saur”.
To continue, the Knight and Spartan duo stepped up. Together, they skillfully presented a performance of Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. This piece exhibited their immense skills as singers. Outside of the costumes, the Knight and Spartan are Ms. LaDuca and Mr. Califano. These mascots are known for being tough. However, their performance was the most raw and tender song imaginable!
Approaching the finale, the Bulldog straight from Polk Street School went on stage. The Bulldog presented their skills with, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston. This singer wasn’t shy, showing how much practice they put in to this event. The piece was lively enough to make people begin to jump around! The singer behind the mask, is none other than Mrs. Neal.
To conclude the event, the T-Rex came up to perform. They energetically performed the hit, Sweet Caroline. This was a perfect way to end the event, having audience members screaming along to the popular tune. The T-Rex was revealed to be, Mrs. Merino! She arranged the entire event, driving out to retrieve costumes and recruiting teachers. A big thanks to Mrs. Merino and well-done!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the event or attended. All proceeds from attendance will be donated to HFC Relay For Life. Relay For Life is a fundraiser supporting cancer studies and abolition. Make sure to tune in on Friday, May 30, for the Relay for life fundraiser!
