Winter is great, but a lot of us tend to find ourselves longing for the warmer weather back. Many of us are accustomed to seasonal depression throughout this time of the winter. The cool, dry tone to the world may put us down. Not to fear! I present 6 hacks to help you beat the winter blues.
1) Listen to Music: What better way to immerse yourself into a happy place than music! Catch up on your favorite singers’ new album or try something new. You might even want to get up and dance! The healing power of music is incredible, use it to your advantage this season.
2) Exercise: The more movement the body gets, the more the mind benefits. Get on with your New Years’ resolutions and visit the gym or try to take a walk in the park on a warm day. Soon you’ll see benefits mentally and physically!

3) Socialize: It’s always good to be able to talk to someone. When cooped up in your room under the blankets, make an effort to text or call your friends. Socializing will help you remember you’re not alone. There’s so many people in the world that someone will be sharing the same struggles as you. Be there for someone, you may even make a stronger friendship!
4) Eat Something Fulfilling: You’ve probably heard the term, “feed the body nourish the soul”. A great way to lift your spirits is to eat a healthy, comforting dish. When I’m feeling low I like to make zucchini bread. It’s the perfect mix of healthy, moist vegetables and sweet cake-like bread. Some other personal suggestions of nutritious comfort foods include chicken soup, sweet potatoes and chili.
5) Go Outside: In times when you’re in your room all day, it’s essential to get fresh air. Even if it’s as simple as going to get the mail, spending time outside is important. It’s a lot harder to get outside time in the colder months but anything will do no matter how small.
6) Clean Your Room: If all else fails, try cleaning your room. Although the task of cleaning can be a daunting one, it will feel nice to have a fresher room in the future. Start with a specific corner and then work your way through until the entire room is tidied! You’re bound to feel less stressed in an organized space.
We’ve already made it past the darkest point of the wintertime and Spring is coming closer every moment! Make sure to keep your hopes high and be open-minded. There’s only weeks until the clocks change and spring is as close as ever. Enjoy the rest of your cold season!
