Every year, the music department–which consists of our band, chorus, and orchestra–goes to NYSSMA majors. NYSMMA majors are for ensembles (groups of 17 or more musicians) in New York State, offering a performance opportunity much like NYSSMA solo festivals but for larger groups. Ensembles choose from the NYSSMA manual and receive a numerical rating, comments, and a division (bronze, silver, or gold).
Led by Katie LoRusso, the chairperson of the music department, the Senior High Band of H Frank Carey worked hard to achieve a Gold division award! The event was hosted in the John Cranford Adams Playhouse on May 20, 2025. There were 2 judges who gave remarkable comments, noting “The percussion doesn’t stick out but blend in nicely.” The band performed Whispers from Beyond by Rossano Galante, Imperial March by Karl L. King, and Dillon’s Flight by Ralph Ford.
To continue with H. Frank Carey’s wonderful music performance streak, on May 21st, 2025, H. Frank Carey held their annual spring concert! We had performances from the different musical groups. The spring concert was performed by H. Frank Carey’s Senior High Jazz Band, Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chorus, and Concert Band. We had beautiful performances all around that really emphasized the importance and beauty of music!
Each and every song was performed beautifully, with numerous rehearsals, hard work, and practice shown. Every song told a different story yet with every single performance came smiles and applause. Big thanks to Mrs. Lorusso the Band director, Mr Moreno the Chorus director, Mrs. DiGaudio the Orchestra director, and Ms. Gioia the Jazz director, for having our music groups prepare, and perform!
As music students ourselves, and the school year coming to an end, we have made so many great memorable moments with our music classes. From the students of the music department, to our music directors, thank you so much for preparing for such a wonderful and successful school year!
