On Saturday, September 27th, the Carey Seahawks visited the South Side Cyclones on their homecoming game for their first away game of the year. They were looking to continue their undefeated streak after two dominating wins against Valley Stream South and Floral Park Memorial.
To start the game, Carey would start on defense. The return by the Cyclones would go up to the 19 yard line. On this drive, they would not convert a first down and would be forced to punt thanks to a Salvatore D’amato sack, with the punt landing at the 45 yard line. They would convert 2 first downs, both off of receptions by wide receiver Jayden Radow. Justin DiPietro would end the drive by diving into the end zone, followed by an extra point by William Cooper to give Carey an early 7-0 lead. South Side would get another chance on offense, this time starting the drive on the 20 yard line from a touchback. They would convert 3 first downs on this drive, but they would be forced to punt the ball again, with an 8 yard loss from a fumble and a penalty affecting their yardage. They would end up starting their drive on the 30 yard line, but they wouldn’t be able to get a first down, being forced to punt the ball away, with the return getting up to Carey’s 46 yard line. However, on the first play of the drive, the Cyclones would hand it off to their running back, who would take it to the end zone to tie it at 7-7. On the kickoff return, Jayden Radow would return it up to the Cyclones’ 49 yard line, which would be followed by a run by Justin DiPietro up to the 41 yard line, which is where Carey would be when the 1st quarter ended.
Carey would start the 2nd quarter on 2nd down, passing the ball twice, but they wouldn’t be able to reach the first down marker, being forced to punt the ball, which would land at the Cyclones’ 7 yard line. However, linebacker Christian Anaya would tackle the Cyclones’ quarterback in the end zone to get the Seahawks a safety, putting them up 9-7. On the free kick, Jayden Radow would return the ball to the 25 yard line, giving the Seahawks good field position to start their drive. However, Carey would use all four downs, not being able to get the first down, giving the ball to South Side, putting them at the 30 yard line. South Side would be able to convert a first down, however, Matthew Lemite would get a tackle for loss, followed by an interception by Tristan Hickis, who would bring the ball up to the 14 yard line for Carey. The Seahawks would cash in on this opportunity, with James McGrath running a jet sweep into the end zone, followed by an extra point to put Carey up 16-7. South Side would take the kickoff up to the 39 yard line. The Cyclones wouldn’t be able to convert any first downs, being forced to punt the ball, but Carey would let the clock run out, going into halftime with a 16-7 lead.
To start off the 2nd half, the Seahawks would receive the ball, which would land at the 28 yard line. On the first drive of the 2nd half, the Seahawks would convert 2 first downs, Jayden Radow catching a deep pass and following it up with a receiving touchdown to extend the Seahawks’ lead to 22-7. South Side would return the kickoff to the 34 yard line. The Cyclones would be to reach the first down line 2 times, where they would finish the drive with a 43 yard receiving touchdown to cut the deficit to 22-14. Carey would start their drive on the 31 yard line, where they would be able to reach the first down marker 3 times, two of them being from runs by David Avila, getting to the 16 yard line at the end of the 3rd quarter.
To start the 4th quarter, Justin DiPietro would run for a first down on 1st and 10, but it would be moved back to the 26 yard line due to a holding penalty for a 1st and 20. They would be able to get the first down and a touchdown off of a rush by Justin DiPietro on 2nd and 5, followed by an extra point by Michael Lombardi to extend their lead to 29-14. The Cyclones would return the kickoff to the 28 yard line. However, on the first play of their drive, Carey would punch the ball out, which would be recovered by Justin DiPietro, putting Carey at the 30 yard line to start their drive. But the Cyclones would get an interception, putting them at the 20 yard line. They would convert 4 first downs, but Justin DiPietro would pop the ball out at the 9 yard line, where linebacker Christian Anaya would return it to the end zone for a 91 yard fumble recovery touchdown to extend their commanding lead to 35-14. South side would start their drive on the 35 yard line after the kick off. They would be reach the first down marker 2 times, but they wouldn’t be able to score before the clock ran out, as the Carey Seahawks defeated the South Side Cyclones 35-14.
