In celebration of Black History Month, the Carey Clipper has written an article to celebrate and recognize on of the greatest musicians in the world, Louis Armstrong.
Born in 1901, the king of Jazz, a monumental musician, a legend was born. Louis Armstrong was a Jazz musician, incredible trumpet player, and entertainer. One of the most influential figures of the world.
His iconic music and his amazing musical history. Armstrong was born in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana. Armstrong rose from poverty and soon became an international star. He not only broke the racial barrier within music, but he inspired jazz for many years to come.Louis Armstrong’s goals consisted of changing the world for the better.
From 1914-1921, Louis started playing music and releasing it from his home. He began playing in New Orleans brass bands and in 1922, Louis moved to Chicago to join mentor King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band. 2 years later in 1924, he went to New York, joining John Fletcher’s orchestra. Together, they introduced a brand influence on music, “Swing-Style”. Over the next few years (1925-1928) more hit records began to be released! Songs like “Hot Five” and “Hot Seven”. In 1932, Louis went on his first tour of Europe starting his career of being an International star!
Just 5 years later he became the first African American who hosted a sponsored national broadcast on the radio! In 1947 Armstrong formed his ground breaking music group “Louis Armstrong and His All Stars”.
Fast forward 17 years and in 1964 the group’s song “Hello, Dolly!” is seen reaching number 1 passing The Beatles! Louis was filled with joy and passion for music and that passion lives on today for he is recognized as one of the greatest influential musicians of all time!
Louis passed away on July 6th, 1971 at only 69 years old. The music star has truly made such an impact with beautiful music, passion and joy!
