Carey Lacrosses last pair of games were not quite what they were looking for after a big loss to Roslyn and a non league win over St Dominic’s in what was their senior game. Although after the loss to Roslyn in their last league game of the regular season hope still arouses as playoffs are upon them. Last Wednesday the Seahawks played Roslyn and took a beating of a loss by a score of 16-8. Leading in scoring that game was one of the guys we’ve covered this season in Jayden Radow getting himself 2 goals that game followed by an assist. James McGrath the team’s leading scorer had himself an off day on the scoreboard with only 2 assists to show for. Vince vicari had himself a two goal game while Ethan peltzer had a goal. Following that Eddie Flaherty and Will Cooper had themselves a goal and an assist during that game. Last but not least someone we haven’t talked about this season in Michael schutt had himself a goal to show for. In their non league game against St Dominic’s the Seahawks demolished them by a score 14-4. Tons of scoring in that game as McGrath had himself a hat trick and 3 assists, Peltzer also had a had trick with 2 assists, Radow had 2 goals and 1 assist for the second straight game, Vince vicari had 2 goals and 2 assists, Will Cooper had himself a nice game with 2 goals and 3 assists, Eddie Flaherty had another goal and 2 assists and finally Brody Nufer had himself a goal to show for. Very nice to see a bunch of seniors getting on the scoreboard at their senior game. A very gutsy win by the Seahawks after a disappointing game against Roslyn. After the last couple games coach Aiello had these to say about his team. “We’re 9-6 right now with a competitive game today against a district rival.” “We didn’t play well against Roslyn and we shouldn’t have lost by 8 goals.” All season Carey’s defense has grown experience and according to Aiello is now “playing a lot better.” Following their defense someone we haven’t covered all season in their goalie Steven Martinez has stepped it up after replacing an all time Carey goalie in Richie Metzger. Steven has a total of 158 saves this season with a save percentage of 59% also allowing 110 goals. Moving forward into the playoffs Carey is the 7 seed awaiting to see who their 10 seed opponent will be. Meaning Carey will host their first playoff game at Carey high school. Aiello had this to say about his team before they embark on a playoff run. “Let’s just continue getting better we have a couple days to practice and focus on individuals skills and get to the highest level to win on Monday and then eventually play against an elite team.” Carey plays their last game of the regular season today against floral park in a non league game which will be good to compete in before they embark on a playoff run.
