On Wednesday, February 25, Carey hosted its annual Junior-Senior Challenge between the Class of 2026 and the Class of 2027. Every year, the seniors and the juniors compete in fun games to see who the superior class is.
The games started off with the hula hoop relay, where competitors from each class had to get in a line and pass through a hula hoop. The relay came down to the wire, but the seniors would ultimately win, going up 1-0. The next game was the balloon race, where competitors had to run to the other side of the gym, sit on their balloon and run back for the next person to go. The seniors started with the lead and never looked back, taking the event and going up 2-0. After the balloon event was the scooter race, where competitors had to pull another competitor on a scooter to one side of the gym and back. This time the juniors started with the lead, keeping it until the end to get on the board 2-1. Following that was the obstacle course, which involved jumping over hurdles, crawling under a bar, jumping rope and shooting a basketball. This event started close, with the seniors making a late push, capturing the event and extending their lead to 3-1. Next up was the get dressed event, where competitors had to take off their shoes, put on a large shirt and pair of pants, run to the end of the gym to put on 2 shoes from a pile mixed with the competitors’ shoes and run back. This event would come down to the wire, with the juniors getting the win, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Coming up after that event was the sliding event, where competitors had to run to the other side of the gym, slide, and run back. Once again, this event would come down to the wire, but this time the seniors took the win, going up 4-2. Then came cage ball, where both teams competed in volleyball with a large beach ball. The seniors came out on top, boosting their lead to 5-2. The final event was tug of war, with the matches being split up between girls and boys. The girls matchup was close, but the juniors would win, making it 5-3. Finally, the boys went up against each other. This one would also be close, but the seniors would come out on top, making the final score 6-3 with the seniors being crowned champions with a points total of 63-57.
