Every November 11th, Americans pause to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day is a federal holiday dedicated to honoring all those who have served in the U.S Armed Forces, both living and deceased, during peacetime and war.
Originally known as Armistice Day, the holiday began on November 11, 1919, to mark the first anniversary of the end of World War I. However, according to the U.S Department of Veterans Affair, in 1954, it was renamed Veterans Day to honor all U.S. military veterans, past and present.
At HFC, students and staff will commemorate veterans with a small event called Operation Gratitude by writing letters to active and retired local veterans in the library. Please make an effort to go to the library during your free period or lunch break to write some messages!
